Kong Api

Kong Gateway is the leading open-source API gateway providing traffic management, authentication, rate limiting, logging, and transformation for APIs through a plugin-based architecture. Its Admin REST API enables programmatic management of all gateway configuration — routes, services, plugins, consumers, and certificates — without using the web UI. Self-hosted high-availability configurations use multiple Kong nodes with a shared database.

Authentication to the Admin API uses admin key-auth or RBAC (in Kong Enterprise). The Admin API should be network-isolated from the data plane — it is a control plane endpoint that configures API traffic policy, not something that should be publicly accessible. Kong's RBAC model (Enterprise) enables granular admin access control for different operator roles.
